I'm happy that I'm getting faster at doing these portraits on turtle shells. I've found out that using a water-color technique with these portraits by using a lot of glazing works well.
My name is Debra Link. My main goal as an artist is to bring hope and beauty to people's everyday lives through art. I was raised in South St. Paul, Minnesota, and was privileged to study under Phylis Anderson. She took me through the drawing exercises in the celebrated book "The Natural Way to Draw" by Nicolades. I have studied at the Minneapolis College of Art and Design and at the Atilier Wicker/Howell in Minneapolis. I work in dry pastel, oil pastel, acrylic, oil, charcoal, graphite and collage. Lately I've been experimenting with the unusual surfaces of buffalo skulls and turtle shells. I specialize in portraiture and can work from both photographs and life. I am represented by MJL Impressions in Minneapolis and Boneyard Art Gallery in Farmington, and have my work in private collections in the United States and Mexico.
